Stoked and Thank You

Well Winter is in full force and for some reason it makes me want to shape even more. This is a pic I took down in St. Kitts many years ago and really looks way more appealing than the -40 windchill outside today.

Those of you who know me know my affinity for hand tools so I was excited to pick up some new additions recently. A great pull saw, new mini plane, spoke shave and a really unique hand made rasp. I got so excited I had to sharpen all my other blades as shown above.
So this post puts me over 10,000 view which is pretty good for never really promoting anything. Want to thank my friends for trying out my shapes and being supportive even f that means stinking up the house with resin. Thank you and if I ever make lots of money free boards for all.

First five fin all done. Small wave shredder for average East Coast days. Single concave with a fair amount of volume and round rails.

Groundswell

Stopped down at the Grain Surfboards factory to watch "Groundswell" movie by Patagonia. It chronicled the proposed sand tar oil extraction in the remote area of Canada that was inhabited by natives who rely heavily on the natural food resources. Short but good had a little sailing, surfing and education all packed in to one. Worth a view if you have a chance. Oh yea got to check out some very nice wood boards.

Volume

Few pictures of the 5'10" squash tail in progress. Big guy board with a good amount of volume. Last of the blanks from the last shipment so time to order up some new materials soon. Toying with the idea of an SUP from some EPS blocks I have found but not sure yet.

Refuge

Once you close the door in the shop and have the heater going it doesn't matter if its winter or summer day or night. Just let ideas fly and see what happens. Now only if money didn't matter then everyone would have a free board!

Cooling down

Broke out the Winter gear for the first time of the season. Haven't been able to get in the water as much as I would like since everytime we get swell it is part of a storm and I haven't been able to leave the boat unattended. Going to have to do some serious suit repair before real winter sets in since I was lwaking like crazy. Major tide swings kind of kept the swell weak but better than nothing. Everywhere I have surfed it always seems like no one works, how is it maga crowded on a mid day during a work week for a mediocore swell?

Fall for Fish

New fish in the works. Bigger than most I make at 5'10", still more work to do but should be finished up soon.

Searching

Some people enjoy going to same spot all the time and some need to explore. Admittedly you have a less chance of scoring it good when you are off looking for a new place but that's the price you pay. You never know whats around the next cove so might as well go check it out. Few pics from a trip looking for waves this fall.

Unfortunately the wave below didn't start breaking until the boat had some engine problems. By the time I fixed it the sun was gone and by the next morning so was the wave. Good thing there will always be more swell.

Putting in the work

Few pics I liked from working on new fish. Keeping this one simple and clean. Have had a good run of swell the last couple of weeks but haven't taken many pics. Hope to get an exploratory trip on the boat soon. 

Rewards

Headed to the beach with the two single fins for a possible fun session. Ended up scoring just as the wind turned and no one realized it yet. Fun beach break with some offshore and minimal crowd for a while until the word got out then it filled up. First real chance to ride the hourglass in decent waves and it preformed great as I expected it would.

Cheked out this spot earlier in the week with little to no swell.

Filling in finally. Hope to tryit out more on different swells. Unfortunatly I dinged the hourglass single fin the day before so didn't get to try it out on this point.

Where are waves

Hot coating the summer fish which is now sold. The second picture is the search for waves on islands up in New England. Few possible spots but nothing perfect yet, never know whats around the next corner though.

Back online

Lost computer access for a bit but should be back. Here is the 5'10" squash tail to check out.

Came out great, very light even with a tiny bit of extra volume.
